24 Hours of Le Mans 2015 - Spa-Francorchamps, the "dress rehearsal"

Once again, the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be on competitors' minds at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), which will take place Saturday, May 2nd.

At the hilly circuit in the Belgian Ardennes, the goal will be two-fold to achieve the best possible result all while preparing cars, drivers and technicians for the big race at Le Mans. Some teams come with the group that will be at Le Mans: in the LM P1 class at Spa, Audi and Porsche will enter a third car, driven by Filipe Albuquerque-Marco Bonanomi-René Rast and Earl Bamber-Nico Hülkenberg-Nick Tandy, respectively. The LM P2 grid will increase with the presence of the British team Jota Sport, victorious in the class at the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans and a regular competitor in the European Le Mans Series. Swiss team Team SARD Morand will make its debut in the World Championship with a Morgan EVO SARD, as the Americans of Extreme Speed Motorsports will debut their two new Ligier JS P2 chassis powered by Honda HPD.

Though the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps serves as the "dress rehearsal" for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the big race maintains its mystique by sometimes compelling quite different results than those achieved in the Belgian Ardennes. In 2014, Toyota, the winner in Belgium, was beaten by Audi at Le Mans; the dominator at Spa in LM P2, G-Drive Racing was forced to abandon at the 24 Hours, which was won by Jota Sport; AF Corse and Ferrari won at Spa in the LM GTE AM the only victory that had eluded Aston Martin. In 2014, only Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander (AF Corse, Ferrari 458 Italia) won both at Spa and at the 24 Hours in LM GTE Pro. So, Le Mans keeps its uniqueness, whereas the weather could be a killjoy at the passionate race next Saturday.
