The road version – Created in 1992, the Viper very quickly joined the Ford Mustang and the Corvette in the pantheon of American sports cars. Commissioned by Bob Lutz, a big boss at Chrysler at the time, it benefitted from the trained eye of former driver Carroll Shelby, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. The production of the Viper started up again in 2012 under a subsidiary called SRT (Street & Racing Technologies).
The 2014 season – The Viper GTS-R was one of the standout players of the first Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSC) season, the new American endurance series. It beat its big national rival Corvette to the punch for the Driver and Team titles in the GT LM class.
En route for 2015 – After the official team SRT Motorsports retired in the wake of its dual TUSC titles in 2014, the Riley Motorsport team will enter the only Viper present this year. It is the one that figures on the reserve list for the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place Saturday and Sunday June 13-14, 2014.
