In 2014-2015, Sébastien Buemi was beaten by Nelson Piquet, Jr. by just one point, yet he was the winningest driver of the first season of World Championship dedicated to 100% electric single-seaters - with three victories. Starting from the pole, the Swiss driver won with a comfortable lead at Beijing.
An Audi factory driver both in the World Endurance Championship and in Formula E, Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi - who won this inaugural round last year - finished second ahead of Nick Heidfeld who has raced these last few years at Le Mans with Rebellion Racing. The top 10 was largely made up of endurance drivers. The sole previous winner at the 24 Hours entered in Formula E, Loïc Duval, finished fourth. Then, from sixth to 10th place can be found Oliver Turvey (winner in the LM P2 class at Le Mans in 2014, sixth), Nathanaël Berthon (Murphy Prototypes driver in the European Le Mans Series, seventh), Sam Bird (three-time winner in LM P2 in 2015 with G-Drive Racing, eighth) and Stéphane Sarrazin (three-time poleman at the 24 Hours, ninth).
Among the 18 drivers at the start in Beijing, seven will compete at Shanghai on November 1st at the next-to-last round of the World Endurance Championship. The second 2015-2016 Formula E race will take place in Putrajaya, Malaysia on Saturday, November 7th.
