André Lotterer is a true world citizen. Of German and Peruvian descent, he grew up in Belgium near the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. He has also earned three titles in Japan: two in Super GT, 2006 and 2009) and one in Super Formula single-seaters (2011), formerly Formula Nippon. Contrary to his fantastic record, he has not yet won in Japan in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). On October 12th, with his friends Marcel Fässler and Benoît Tréluyer (also a title-winner in Formula Nippon, in 2006) and the Audi R18 e-tron quattro, he finished sixth at the 6 Hours of Fuji, the fifth 2014 round.
André Lotterer: "The fans fantastically supported us throughout the race weekend, be it from the grandstands or in the paddock, and especially behind our garage. In personal conversations with the fans and guests at the Audi VIP
Lounge, I keep noticing that the Japanese truly appreciate our commitment. This applies to the fascinating technology which the manufacturers develop as well as to the strictly human level. The fans often arrive with personal photos or program booklets from various years to have them signed. And whenever you see a child wearing an Audi overall you definitely know that even youngsters are thrilled by Audi in the FIA WEC and are proud of getting an autograph. Because I live in Tokyo it’s true that the event is a very special one for me even though the race, unfortunately, did not go so well for us today. There has been a change in the lead of the manufacturers’ classification but Audi is trailing Toyota only by eight points. In sporting terms, everything remains open."
