24 Hours of Le Mans – Five highlights for Wednesday 12 June

Throughout race week at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans, we'll share five standout points of interest for the day.

Thomas Laurent pays tribute to the SNSM rescuers killed in the line of duty

Laurent, driver of Rebellion Racing's #3 Rebellion R13-Gibson, paid tribute today to the three resuers from the Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer (SNSM) who died on Friday 7 June in the capsize of their boat during a rescue operation in the middle of a Storm Miguel. The French driver affixed to his helmet an SNSM sticker for the 87th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (15-16 June).

An Art Car in 24 hours

On Saturday 15 June starting at 15:00 in honour of Ligier's 50th anniversary, artist Nairone Defives will tackle a Ligier JS P4, the French marque's last prototype, with his black and white palette to create a true Art Car. It's an artistic feat like no other!

But French artist and designer Nairone Defives is no rookie. He has already painted frescoes and exhibited his works in Paris, Brussels and several cities in North America, and regularly collaborates with well-known brands like as Adidas and Paris Saint Germain.

Will Dempsey-Proton Racing's #99 Porsche return to the track tomorrow?

During today's free practice, Dempsey-Proton Racing's #99 Porsche 911 RSR left the track in the Mulsanne Straight. Though Tracy Krohn (age 64) emerged unscathed, the car did suffer some damage. His teammate Nic Jönsson has faith in the talent of the team to be able to repair the car quickly.

The Le Mans Esports Series gamers have arrived!

Coming from all over the globe, the 36 gamers entered in the first Le Mans Esports Series final have arrived in Le Mans. Tomorrow, things get serious straightaway with qualifying sessions scheduled all day. The players were given a VIP tour: at the edge of the track, the Village, the paddocks. Even better, they participated in a karting race to get to know each other! Some gamers have already seen the circuit since they came from ForzaRC, but others are new to the experience. The final begins on Friday at 11:00.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans emissions to be offset

It's no secret, vehicles pollute the atmosphère, and racing cars are no exception. For the 87th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest has partnered with Carbon Forest to ensure the environmental impact of the race will be offset through a reasonable forest management system. Carbon Forest has been certified by the regulatory faction of Bureau Veritas.
