24 Hours of Le Mans - Ietoshi Kaneko has left us...

A great figure in the paddock of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and endurance, Ietoshi Kaneko has passed away this Friday, September 23rd.

Ietoshi Kaneko’s life was linked for quite some time to the German team Freisinger Motorsport.  A major player in the GT fields in the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the end of the 1990s and early 2000s, he saw passing through the ranks two former and future winners of the race, Stéphane Ortelli and Romain Dumas.

Thereafter, he formed his own team which included several former Freisinger Motorsport team members. Called T2M Motorsport, the outfit debuted at Le Mans in 2003 with a Porsche 911 driven by Patrick Bourdais (Sébastien’s father), Vanina Ickx and Roland Berville. T2M Motorsport also appeared in 2005, 2006 (still with the Porsche 911) and 2007, this time in prototypes with a Dome chassis (LM P2 class).

Photographer, outfit owner, television pundit, drivers manager, importer of scale models, Japanese-Francophile (he completed graduate level studies at la Sorbonne), Ietoshi Kaneko was still active in 2016, along with this fellow countryman Yutaka Yamagishi, one of the drivers of the Corvette for the French team Larbre Compétition (LM GTE Am class) at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans.

To his family and loved ones, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest offers its heartfelt condolences.
