This week’s Automobile Club de l’Ouest Instagram interview is with Mr Le Mans himself! In the past few weeks, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest has hosted live Instagram sessions with Sébastien Buemi, Stéphane Ortelli, Pascal Vasselon, Fernando Alonso, Jean-Éric Vergne, André Lotterer and Kévin Estre. This week, nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen will be fielding questions, from 18:00 CEST.
The 52-year-old Danish racing driver won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2013, a significant improvement on the previous record held by Jacky Ickx, who has six victories to his name.
Kristensen’s first Le Mans was in 1997, when he joined the Team Joest crew of the TWR-Porsche WSC-95, driving with Michele Alboreto and Stefan Johansson. He started as he meant to go on: with a win! After two aborted attempts with BMW in 1998 and 1999, Kristensen joined Audi in 2000 and won the next six 24 Hours of Le Mans adding a further two victories in 2008 and 2013. Kristensen retired in 2014 after one last race win with Audi. Passionate about his sport, Kristensen remains very much a part of motor racing, as FIA steward and chairman of the FIA Drivers’ Commission. He was one of 28 drivers to be recently inducted to the FIA endurance racing Hall of Fame.
Tomorrow at 18:00 CEST, Tom Kristensen will be answering questions from fans of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and endurance racing. Head over to Instagram to follow the session live.
