24 Hours of Le Mans - LMP1 winner reactions

Porsche has won the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans. This is the first victory here for Brendon Hartley, and the second for Timo Bernhard (the first was in 2010 with Audi) and Earl Bamber (the first was in 2015 with Porsche). The driver line-up, in 55th position five hours into the race, managed an epic climb back and reached the top step on the overall podium!

Brendon Hartley (NZL): "The mechanics did an incrediible job. Our aim was to attack for the 18 or 19 hours that were left. We focused on our race and pushed ourselves to go as fast as possible. I was sad for Toyota last night and then, this morning, I realised we were fighting to win. Le Mans is always unpredictable."

Earl Bamber (NZL): Note, Bamber is the driver who took the wheel after the lengthy repairs stop. "The car was running very well. There was an engine problem in a braking zone and I felt something break. There was smoke coming into the cockpit. I thought our race was over. They replaced the entire front shaft and got the car back on the track in 45 minutes. Thanks to the mechanics. We were 18 laps down and ended up battling for first place."

Timo Bernhard (GER): "There's a lot of emotion because the 24 Hours of Le Mans is the hardest and greatest race. I've won for the second time and it's a peak of my career. We did very well mentally, we never gave up. Yes it's true I cried, and I can tell you it's the first time in my entire career. A huge thank you to our mechanics who pulled off a miracle repairing the car that fast. This is a wonderful reward for them."
