The 24 Hours of Le Mans Hyperpole is already shaping up to be the highlight of this second day of racing. Twenty-four cars will take part in this exercise in pure, simultaneous speed. Road to Le Mans and the Porsche Carrera Cup are sure to put on quite a show on the track as well.
Teams will take advantage of an additional one-hour free practice session from 10:00 to 11:00, another opportunity for competitors to continue working on their car's set-ups ahead of the race.
The top 24 qualifying cars (six LMP1s, six LMP2s, six LMGTE Pros and six LMGTE Ams) will participate in this Hyperpole session all about pure, simultaneous speed. The time recorded will be that of the fastest driver in the line-up. Competitors will not be allowed to enter the box, but they will be free to choose their tyres, within their allotment for the race.
The prototypes in the LMP3 class and the GTs in GT3 will hit the track for two qualifying sessions: the first from 08:30 to 08:50 and the second from 09:10 to 09:30. The competitors will participate in Race 1 from 14:15 to 15:10. Who will claim a podium finish?
The 50th anniversary of Porsche's first win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 88th running of the race had to host a round of the Porsche Carrera Cup. After Magny-Cours, this will be the third race of the season, and like Road to Le Mans, it will be held at the big circuit. Among recent Porsche Carrera Cup France winners will be Julien Andlauer (2017), Mathieu Jaminet (2016), Kévin Estre (2011), Frédéric Makowiecki (2010) and Patrick Pilet (2007), now all regularly seen at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Certain class winners like Kevin Estre (2018) and Julien Andlauer will also be present. There are three classes: Pro, Pro-Am and the new Am in this monomarque series created in 1987 in France that has seen a succession of the German manufacturer's iconic models, from the Porsche 944 Turbos to different generations of Porsche 911s (964, 993, 996, 997 and now the phase 2 991). The Porsche Carrera Cup drivers will be on the track from 13:00 to 18:30 for two free practice sessions and qualifying.
Though the 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place behind closed doors due to the international health crisis, you can live stream all the action.
