24 Hours of Le Mans – Rebellion Racing on top ahead of the Hyperpole

Traditionally, Friday is a quiet day at the circuit. But since the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans is like no other, the action on the track today was sensational! Here is a summary of the final free practice session ahead of the Hyperpole.

At 10:00, competitors were once again able to hit the track, this time for the fouth and final free practice (the fifth session in two days including qualifying).

Good news, the two IDEC SPORT Racing cars were present after the French team's terrible luck yesterday and plenty of repair work thereafter. One car is new (chassis) and the other is rebuilt. Patrick Pilet was first to take the wheel of the outfit's #17 ORECA 07-Gibson he will share tomorrow with Kyle Tilley and Jonathan Kennard. The latter was called in at the last minute to replace Dwight Merriman, injured during an incident yesterday.

This morning's session was not free of hiccups. Lucas Légeret halted the session at the wheel of Dempsey-Proton Racing's #99 Porsche 911 RSR during the recon lap when he took a detour into a gravel trap at the first Mulsanne chicane. ByKOLLES Racing's Tom Dillmann also had some trouble when the #4 Enso CLM P1/01 broke down before even leaving pit lane, and it even happened a second time a few minutes later. He managed to take the track at the end of the session and finish in eighth position. Eurocontinental's #11 Ligier JSP217-Gibson had a problem at the Tertre Rouge, as did Jan Magnussen driving JMW Motorsport's #66 Ferrari 488 GTE EVO into the gravel trap at Mulsanne.

In the race against the clock, Rebellion Racing dominated. Like last night's session, the Swiss team scored the top spot on the timesheet, with the #1 Rebellion R13-Gibson shared by Bruno Senna/Norman Nato/Gustavo Menezes. Menezes clocked the fastest time in 3:21.132. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid driven by Mike Conway/Kamui Kobayashi/José María López made it onto the podium ahead of Rebellion Racing's #3 Rebellion R13-Gibson. Louis Delétraz clocked the car's quickest time at the very end of the session.
