24 Hours of Le Mans – The 2022 LMGTE Pro class

Ferrari will once again face off against Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche in LMGTE Pro for the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans. All three marques will seek to outperform the others, especially with Ferrari and Porsche going head-to-head in Hypercar next year.

#52 – Ferrari 488 GTE Evo – Miguel Molina (ESP) – Antonio Fuoco (ITA) – Davide Rigon (ITA)

After winning the LMGTE Pro class last year as well as a sixth FIA Endurance Manufacturers trophy, Ferrari is keen on keeping its crown. However, this season has proved challenging for the Italian marque splitting its efforts between the FIA WEC and the development of its LMH set to compete in Hypercar next year.

Alessandro Pier Guidi (six participations), James Calado (seven) and Daniel Serra (five) have been announced for the #51 car. The Italian and British drivers will share the wheel of a 488 GTE Evo for the fifth year in a row. Pier Guidi: "2021 was fantastic. We won everything there was to win, but in auto racing you have to move on very quickly. We are starting fresh and intend to give it our all."

Miguel Molina (five participations) and Antonio Fuoco (five) have been entrusted with the #52 car for the entire 2022 FIA WEC season. At the upcoming 24 Hours, they will be joined by Davide Rigon (seven). The #52 won the recent TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps round.

CORVETTE RACING

#63 – Corvette C8.R – Antonio García (ESP) – Jordan Taylor (USA) – Nicky Catsburg (NLD)
#64 – Corvette C8.R – Tommy Milner (USA) – Nick Tandy (GBR) – Alexander Sims (GBR)

This year marks Corvette Racing's first full season in the FIA WEC. In 2021, the Corvette C8.R took the start in its first 24 Hours after notable success in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. For that rookie participation, the #63 finished second 41 seconds behind the winning Ferrari, and the #64 finished sixth. Corvette Racing is clearly hoping to outperform Ferrari and Porsche this year given the team's choice of veteran drivers. Antonio García and Tommy Milner have 13 and 11 participations in the 24 Hours to their credit, respectively. Joining Milner at the wheel of the #64 is 2015 Le Mans winner with Porsche Nick Tandy: "Last year we experienced some mechanical problems that slowed us down. Now we get another chance. It has been a few years since Corvette Racing has reached the top step on the podium at Le Mans, and I have never won the race in GT, so that is the main goal."

Corvette Racing won the 24 Hours in the GTS class in 2001, 2002 and 2004, then in GT1 in 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011, and in LMGTE Pro in 2015.

RILEY MOTORSPORTS

#74 – Ferrari 488 GTE Evo – Felipe Fraga (BRA) – Sam Bird (GBR) – Shane van Gisbergen (NZL)

This American team earned its invitation to the race after winning the LMP3 title in the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. In 2015, RIley Motorsports finished 10th in LMGTE Am with a Viper GTS-R and later competed in LMP2 then returned to LMGTE Am thanks to client Ben Keating. This year, Bill Riley has opted for a Ferrari entrusted to professional drivers. Felipe Fraga (three participations), Sam Bird (eight) and former V8 Supercar driver Shane van Gisbergen will be looking to secure the best possible result for the team.

PORSCHE GT TEAM

#91 – Porsche 911 RSR-19 – Gianmaria Bruni (ITA) – Richard Lietz (AUT) – Frédéric Makowiecki (FRA)
#92 – Porsche 911 RSR-19 – Michael Christensen (DNK) – Kévin Estre (FRA) – Laurens Vanthoor (FRA)

Porsche has not won the LMGTE Pro class since 2018 and the 911 RSR-19s finished third and fourth last year one and two laps behind the winning Ferrari. The German cars failed to measure up in performance, especially during long stints. However, Porsche fought Ferrari for the FIA Endurance GT Manufacturers title all the way to the last 15 minutes of the final round of the season. This year, the marque intends to bring home a 108th class win at the 90th 24 Hours! Porsche Programme Director in the FIA WEC Alexander Stehlig: "We are gearing up for a very special running of the race as it will be our last with the factory 911 RSR in LMGTE Pro. We want to close this chapter with a triumphant ending. We are absolutely motivated." The #92 Porsche won the 1000 Miles de Sebring early in the season before finishing second at the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps behind the #51 Ferrari.
