Chris Hoy, six-time Olympic Games gold medalist - has joined the Algarve Pro Racing team to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the wheel of the team's Ligier JS P2-Nissan. The 2015 ELMS champion in LM P3 will finally be able to live out his dream.
Chris Hoy is well-known in the sports world thanks to his six gold medals in track cycling, won during at three different Olympic Games.
After having put away his bike, Hoy turned to British GT with Nissan's support. Then in 2015, he entered LM P3 in the European Le Mans Series, winning three races with the Team LNT team in a Ginetta-Nissan. He also won the ELMS LM P3 drivers title with his teammate, Charlie Robertson.
This year, the British driver will participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 18th and 19th), a race that is his absolute dream. He will drive the Ligier JS P2-Nissan entered by Portuguese team Algarve Pro Racing and that he'll share with Andrea Pizzitola and Michael Munemann. He will also compete in the first two ELMS rounds, Silverstone (April 16th) and Imola (May 15th).
Chris Hoy:"In motorsports terms, it’s everything. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the pinnacle for me. It’s what I’ve been working for over the past three years. To get the news that I have the seat for Le Mans is amazing. I still can’t quite believe it. “It’s exciting but there are a lot of steps to take between now and then so I’m trying to focus on the short-term. I’m also incredibly excited that I’m going to be starting on the same grid as all these legendary drivers.”But the LM P2 car I’m going to race at Le Mans is the easiest and most intuitive car I’ve ever driven."
