A little earlier in the week, Nissan showed a portion of its tests at the National Corvette Museum (NCM) Motorsports Park live on the Periscope app (see article). The Japanese manufacturer hit the asphalt for three days with two of the three models of the GT-R LM NISMO that will debut at Le Mans as well as two official Corvettes.
Russian driver Mark Shulzhitskiy, winner of the Nissan GT Academy in his country, was present in order to offset the withdrawal of former Le Mans winner Marc Gené, who will follow the race from the Nissan pit. Consequently, the three driver line-ups are as such: Max Chilton-Jann Mardenborough-Olivier Pla will share the wheel of the No. 23 car (Ni-San, two and three in Japanese), whereas Alex Buncombe-Michael Krumm-Harry Tincknell will do the same in the No. 22 and Tsugio Matsuda-Lucas Ordoñez-Mark Shulzhitskiy in the No. 21 - which will only compete at the 24 Hours, unlike the other two GT-R LM NISMOs entered in all remaining FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) races.
The Russian driver debuted at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year with OAK Racing, in LM P2, along with Jann Mardenborough and another up-and-comer Alex Brundle, son of Martin, winner at Le Mans in 1990. The trio reached fifth place in the class in the Ligier JS P2 also debuting.
The entire team is now back from Kentucky at its base in Indianapolis where the third car for Le Mans is being assembled before heading to France for Test Day on May 31st.
