24 stories for 2014 (1) – the always special 24 Hours of Le Mans!

The first lessons of the endurance season are coming to a close. Whatever may be the hierarchy of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), of which it has been a part of since 2012, the 24 Hours of Le Mans remains a race apart, as proven once again at the 2014 edition.

Toyota achieved a fantastic season: five victories in eight races and the crowns for drivers and constructors…but, once again, Audi reigned over the 24 Hours of Le Mans by winning its 13th victory since 2000. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a veritable world championship inside the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC): the endurance elite from all continents and all series come together and the unfolding of the race is always surprising. Who knew the storm at the beginning of the race would end up ruling out the No. 8 Toyota TS040 Hybrid for victory? That the No. 7 would be forced to retire at five in the morning after a thrilling 14-hour ride in the lead? That the Porsche 919 Hybrid would move into first position barely three hours from the finish? That the trio Fässler-Lotterer-Tréluyer would win the race after a turbo change that could have proved crippling on Sunday morning? That Tom Kristensen would come so close to an astonishing 10th victory? That the Ligier JS P2 would make such an impressive debut in the LM P2 class? That it would see the win for the Jota Sport team who gave everything it had in order to take the lead at the end of the race?

That's the 24 Hours of Le Mans. More than ever a special and unpredictable event that sets its own rules (and different every year...), defying all logic, predictions and routines with mischievous pleasure. The 83rd edition is shaping up to be out of this world. Audi will return and stake its crown; Toyota will once again attempt a Le Mans victory which has so far eluded it; On the back of its victory at the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, Porsche will attempt to add to its record of 16 wins; and Nissan is looking to be a player in this battle of the titans. We can't wait...Tickets are already available for the event on June 13-14, 2015!
