Beaten in LM P2 in 2012 by the Starworks Motorsports Honda HPD ARX-03b, Nissan was already powering the majority of the class's competitors. This year, the Japanese motorist had the perfect season: the first four finishing positions in the 24 Hours, the LM P2 drivers and teams titles with OAK Racing and 8 out of 8 race wins in the FIA World Endurance Championship (four for G-Drive Racing, two for OAK Racing, one each for Delta-ADR and Pecom Racing). Nissan also won the five rounds of the European Le Mans Series, as well as the drivers and teams titles with Signatech Alpine.
Two graduate drivers of the Nissan GT Academy, a program giving contestants the opportunity to go from video games to real competition on the track, distinguished themselves this season behind the wheel of the Greaves Motorsports Zytek-Nissan. British driver Jann Mardenborough (22 years old) finished third in the LM P2 class in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans participations, alongside Michael Krumm and Lucas Ordonez, both factory Nissan drivers. In addition, the final round of the FIA WEC at Bahrain saw the debut of Belgian racer Wolfgang Reip (26 years old), who finished fifth in LM P2.
