The Lorraine B3-6 (1925) : 30 cars and 90 years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 24/30
Initially specializing in railway equipment, the "Société Lorraine des anciens établissements de Dietrich & Cie de Lunéville", better known as Lorraine-Dietrich, began making automobiles in 1896. Lorraine Dietrich was one of the pioneers of racing and took part in the ill fated Paris-Madrid race in 1903 (stopped at Bordeaux after numerous accidents and fatalities). After manufacturing military equipment (including aircraft engines) during the First World War, the French manufacturer took part in the first edition of the 24 Hours in 1923, with the B3-6. This tooke second and third places behind Bentley in 1924 before winning in 1925 and finished in the top three places in 1926. Lorraine Dietrich thus entered the early history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as the first manufacturer to score a 1-2-3 finish, a feat achieved later by Ferrari, Porsche, Audi and Peugeot.
