6 Hours of Mexico - four local drivers rise to the challenge!

There are four Mexican drivers on the entry list for the 6 Hours of Mexico, the fifth round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

The superb Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is the setting for the fifth leg of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 6 Hours of Mexico, on 3 September. Many fans will be keeping a close eye on the LM P2 class in which four Mexican drivers are competing.

Alfonso Díaz Guerra, also known as Alfonso ‘Picho’ Toledano Junior, will be racing Manor’s #44 Oreca 05, powered by a Nissan engine. Guerra regularly competes in single-seater races, such as Formula BMW and Formula Renault Campus. His father, Alfonso Toledano Senior, was  a racing  too, competing against the likes of Ayrton Senna in his day.

Another Mexican name on the grid: González. Ricardo, of course, driver for RGR Sport, but also his brother, Roberto who will be at the wheel of the Gibson 015S Nissan for Greaves Motorsport, alongside fellow Mexican Luis Díaz, 1998 Formula Mexico champion. Díaz excelled in the American Le Mans Series a few seasons ago, when he was paired with Adrian Fernández. In 2009, the Mexican duo reigned supreme in the LM P2 class, driving an Acura fielded by Lowe’s Fernández Racing.

The 6 Hours of Mexico is the first WEC event to be held in the country and to see four local drivers entered is clear proof that there is a huge amount of interest in endurance racing in Mexico.
