It was no surprise that Dome announced the end of their LMP programme. However, the Japanese manufacturer has not completely closed the door to a return to endurance racing.
On the starting grid for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008 the Dome S102 was sublime, with an immaculate white dress and the voice of a diva from its Judd engine. In its first appearance, it did not disappoint. With a 3:26.928, it was well positioned among the best. During the race however, despite the enthusiasm of its three 'samurai' Kataoka, Achikawa and Ito, it failed to finish in the top 10.
Whatever its fate, it was promising, and nobody could imagine that it would never return to Le Mans, but after two abortive attempts, the Dome S102 is now relegated to the museum.
The press release said that they would be willing to develop on a new prototype, if a manufacturer were to ask them. Meanwhile, a new car named 'Isaku' is in development and could serve as a basis of a GT Endurance car. (Image non-contractual for illustration only)
