A fourth invitation to Le Mans for the Asian Le Mans Series this season

As of recently, three automatic invitations to the 24 Hours of Le Mans had been granted to the winners in three classes in the Asian Le Mans Series this 2017/2018 season, and a fourth one is now forthcoming in GT.

The champions in the LMP2 (competing for the overall win) and LMP3 classes received an LMP2 invitation to Le Mans since LMP3 prototypes are ineligible. One invitation was earned in the GT class and that team will be able to compete in LMGTE Am at the 24 Hours.

For the upcoming season, an "Am" sub-class will be reserved for amateurs and the winner will also be granted an invitation to Le Mans in LMGTE Am as long as there are enough competitors entered. If that turns out not to be the case, the GT vice-champion may take part in the 24 Hours, and the winning "amateur" team will be able to enter the following season of the Asian Le Mans Series at no charge.

Also, though the format of the four rounds of the 2017/2018 season will remain the same, the Buriram round will go six hours, while the duration of the other races will stay at four. The Thai round will coincide (as it did last year) with an important holiday, Children's Day, which helped to draw 100,000 spectators over the weekend.

Lastly, the LMP2 prototypes compliant with the technical regulations introduced this year will debut in the Asian championship at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season, but the current cars will still be eligible for gentlemen-drivers for whom a trophy will be reserved.
