The Lola Aston Martin had a fright yesterday during the first free practice session.

A fire erupted under the bodywork, producing thick smoke in the cockpit where Greg Pickett had taken over from Lucas Luhr. A check valve in the injection system was stuck open, causing a fuel leak in the pipes under high pressure.

Fortunately, Pickett managed to stop near a fire marshals station and immediately triggered the fire extinguisher inside of his prototype. More fear than harm for the driver-owner of the team whose participation in the race is not affected.

They will closely monitor the Lola Aston Martin #06 this afternoon in qualifying (3:35 p.m.). Yesterday, Lucas Luhr (Audi official driver) had created a stir by finishing fourth in the first practice session with a lap of 1:50.647.

Greg Pickett, driver and team owner: "Even if the boys had a busy day, the damage to the car were not too significant and it was mainly electrical wires that had burned. I want to thank the marshals who helped extinguish the flames. "
