Introduced in late 2010, the electric Green GT race car project has made progress and should be ready to compete at the end of the season of WEC. The H2 model has already passed through the wind tunnel, and should take its first laps on the 10th of April.

Gradually, what was still a dream come true and the test day of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2012 is expected to host a preview car electric motor among the competitors. Reserve for the race, the company GreenGT, based in Switzerland, is developing the hydrogen engine, which currently has a range of forty minutes, and performance equivalent to a Norma LM P2 prototype.

Progress remains to be made in the area of endurance (the goal is to reach one hour), but also the weight (the goal is to move from 1,200 to 1,000 kg) and performance. Two days of testing are scheduled in April and endurance tests will be conducted in May before the car appears at the test day of the 24 hours.

The prototype H2, chassis was designed by Gerard Welter (Walter Racing) among others, and could race as soon as August 25, 2012 at the 6 Hours of Silverstone and continue with the last four races of the World Endurance Championship. The 2012 season will serve as testing for Green GT which is intended for the entire WEC in 2013.

Green GT is not his first attempt in the field of electric motors, the constraints of competition are a challenge with a relatively short time frame to gain experience in motor racing. The development cost of the project is 5 million euros, but the prototype uses a low-cost fuel source... water! The water provides hydrogen, which allows the fuel cell to create electricity. In doing so, the battery turns hydrogen back into water molecules that will again be transformed into hydrogen.

Although reserve for the 80th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, spectators can enjoy the GreenGT H2 in the parade "Le Mans to the Future" to be held as a curtain raiser of the race.
