The LMP1 class served up plenty of surprises, with the win going to Porsche, and LMGTE Pro was breathtaking from beginning to end with an edge-of-your-seat last lap between Aston Martin and Corvette.
LMP1 was full of twists with seemingly endless mechanical troubles for #2 Porsche 919 Hybrid, retirements for two of the three Toyota TS050 HYBRIDs and a retirement for the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid a few hours from the finish as it held the lead. In the end, the #2 driven by Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley - restarted in 56th position after necessary repairs were made - won the race.
Ford, Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Corvette were all present in LMGTE Pro. The battle between the five marques was simply magnificent, culminating in an unforgettable final lap between the #97 Aston Martin Vantage (Darren Turner, Jonathan Adam and Daniel Serra) and the #63 Corvette C7.R (Jan Magnussen, Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia). The British car won with more than a one-minute lead on the #67 Ford GT and the Corvette, third.
