Before the GT2 version to be seen at the Le Mans 24 Hours next year (*), Ferrari unveils the first racing version of the 458 Italia.
This 458 Challenge will replace the F430 Challenge in the Ferrari Trofeo Pirelli in 2011, the single-make series competed by Ferrari’s gentlemen drivers. The car’s first shakedown secretly took place last June on the Fiorano circuit, and was also tested at Monza by Jaime Melo, the LMGT2 winner in the Algarve 1000kms.
The 458 Challenge is fitted with its regular 570hp V8, and receives a specific suspension set-up and the braking system of the 599XX laboratory car. Significant work has been achieved regarding the car’s weight, with the use of lightweight materials like carbon fibre. A first for a Ferrari Challenge model is the use of the F1-Trac traction control system.
