A new livery for Ferrari's 70th anniversary for AF Corse's 488s in the FIA WEC and Le Mans

In honor of Ferrari's 70th anniversary, the AF Corse team's two 488 GTEs in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) and therefore the 24 Hours of Le Mans will sport a special livery for the entire season with a darker hue of red than usual.

Ferrari has always had competition in the blood, Franco Cortese won the Grand Prix of Rome with the 125 S in 1947, the year the Italian marque was created. The car, a replica of which is on display at the Ferrari museum in Maranello, was boasted a dark red livery, hence the dominating color of AF Corse's two 488s for the 2017 season.

Unlike its rivals Porsche, Aston Martin (a 100% factory program as of this year) and Ford in LM GTE Pro, Ferrari does not have an official team in GT and puts its confidence in private outfits like AF Corse in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) and Risi Competizione in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the U.S.

The collaboration with AF Corse allowed the Italian manufacturer to win in GT at the 2012 and 2014 editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans thanks to the trio Gianmaria Bruni (now official Porsche driver), Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander (currently with Risi Competizione).

For the 2017 World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), the #51 Ferrari 488 GTE will be driven by James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi, while Sam Bird and Davide Rigon share the #71 sister car. The name of the third driver to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans has not yet been revealed.
