A work by Michel Zacharie Lecomte enriches the ACO collection

At the 24 Hours of Le Mans Test Day, the ACO was presented with a painting by former official Le Mans 24 Hours artist, Michel Zacharie Lecomte, who passed away in 2011.

ACO President Pierre Fillon was joined at the ceremony by the artist’s widow, Annick Lecomte, Jean-Pierre Jaussaud and members of the newly-founded ACO heritage committee.

Mr Fillon remarked on Lecomte’s talent for capturing the movement and speed of racing cars. The 24 Hours of Le Mans was a constant source of inspiration for the artist, whose work represents the car fielded by Le Mans-based constructor Rondeau winning the 1980 race.

The ceremony provided an opportunity to pay tribute to a talented artist and to another great man, Jean-Pierre Jaussaud, who turned 80 last Saturday. Jaussaud won Le Mans in 1978 and in 1980, at the wheel of the Rondeau depicted in the painting.

The driver delighted in describing how a spin in a freak rain shower almost deprived Rondeau of the win, shortly before the finish. The car stalled and the driver had trouble starting it again.

Art illustrates our feats and fires our imagination. The ACO is proud that the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a source of inspiration for artists.
