After Dakar, Romain Dumas (Porsche) to take part in the Monte Carlo Rally

Quiet off-season? Not for two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Romain Dumas! After finishing eighth overall at Dakar, the official Porsche driver will compete in the Monte Carlo Rally next weekend.

Like the famous Energizer bunny keeps going and going, so does Romain Dumas. After attending back-to-back gala soirées at the end of the season to collect consecutive awards such as World Endurance Champion, the French native was to participate in the first RallyCircuit organized at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, but mechanical problems dictated otherwise.

The two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, in 2010 with Audi and 2016 with Porsche, barely had time to celebrate Christmas before crossing the Atlantic to take the start at his third Dakar in a row at the wheel of a car entered by his own outfit, RD Limited. Though he lost some time helping one of his main rivals, Romain Dumas still managed to cross the finish line in eighth place, his first top 10.

With hardly time to take a breathe, the French driver boarded another airplane for the Monte Carlo Rally, which he competed in for the first time in 2015 (26th). Yesterday, the Volant ACO 1994 participed in the shakedown of the rally, won by the four-time World Rally Champion, with a Porsche prepared by his own team.

Though he will not play a part in Porsche's LM P1 program in 2017, Romain Dumas has but one desire: to take on Pikes Peak in Colorado once again after winning last year. Will he clinch a third win?
