An LMP for the road!

A 24 Hours of Le Mans constructor of the early millennium, Reynard is marking its revival with a street legal prototype: Thrills guaranteed.

In 2001, after the failure of its sports prototype development and the bankruptcy of the company in early 2002 , Adrian Reynard was forced to abandon the project. Ironically, the following year it revealed a huge potential in the hands of John Nielsen. Nine years later, it is worth recalling that the Le Mans Series championship title holding Ginetta Zytek is a distant descendant of the 02S, and the latest creation of the workshops in Brackley. In 2009, Reynard Engineering Director Andre Brown announced the revival of the marque, with a prototype capable of providing as much downforce as a Formula 1.

To prove that the English are conciliatory people, the government has just approved the 'Inverter' for road use, even with ground effect body, a huge rear diffuser and a massive wing (although, in fairness the wing may be a track day only accessory). Reynard say that the driver may expereince 3g in cornering...on roundabouts perhaps?

With a 180bhp engine and a total weight of only 440 kilograms, the Inverter is in the best tradition of British sportscars, such as the Lotus Seven and more recently the Ariel Atom. It is priced at € 116,000.
