The 2013 event in South Korea was marked by execrable weather, which upset the French team’s plans as after setting pole in qualifying it had to make do with third place on the podium in the race.
On the 3.908-km Inje Speedium circuit, which has 20 corners, Ho-Pin Tung and David Cheng are determined to clinch victory in their Morgan LM P2, built in the Onroak Automotive workshop and powered by a Judd engine. The team hasn’t ruled out the possibility of using a third Asian driver in some of the events on the Asian Le Mans Series calendar after the Korean round.
This year Ho-Pin Tung and David Cheng will enjoy the advantages that come from experience and collaboration, which they didn’t have last year. They raced in three out of the four rounds in the Asian Le Mans Series and Pin Tung’s absence at Fuji led to Cheng winning the title. They recently took part in the Le Mans 24 Hours together, a particularly enriching adventure. They saw the flag in an nice seventh place in the LM P2 category, which they shared with OAK Racing and Adderly Fong, as well as their faithful partners Total Lubricants China and Orsun.
The no. 1 Morgan-Judd LM P2 will also carry the colours of Tyre Plus and Michelin, official supplier of the series, in addition to the local and regional partners of the team, ‘Le Mans, Une Marque’ and ‘Sarthe Development.’
Ho-Pin Tung : "We have a big task ahead to defend our Asian Le Mans Series title. But coming off a strong Le Mans 24H with the Oak Racing Ligier-HPD and a season best second place finish at the last TUSC race in the USA with the Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan LM P2 I am full of confidence. For Asian Le Mans Series, we are sticking with our championship winning Morgan-Judd LM P2 combination. I am very glad to be teaming up with David again and look forward to try to continue our strong performance of last year."
David Cheng : ” I'm really looking forward to starting the second season of the Asian Le Mans Series. This year the competition has increased from last year so I think we should be expecting more of a fight. It'll be nice as well to be back in the Morgan Judd LM P2 car with OAK Racing Team Total and our partners Orsun, Total and Tyre Plus. I'll be sharing the car with Ho Pin again this year so it's a familiar team and we should be able to get to work right out of the box. "
