Asian LMS Sepang - La der des jaunes

It could be Survivor, but no it's the final round of the 2014 Asian Le Mans Series season which will take place this weekend in Malaysia at the Sepang circuit, known internationally for hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix. A happy country that just welcomed the second round of Formula E (the new FIA World Championship dedicated to 100% electric single-seaters) in the nearby city of Putrajaya. Although it only attracted about 6,000 spectators, the Grand Prix in March was highly watched on the other hand. The event this time will combine Formula Asia, the 1,000km of Sepang and the 3 Hours of the Asian Le Mans Series, which will take place on Sunday, December 7th and at which nine cars are expected. After leaving Le Mans, our team spent the night in a three-quarters-empty Malaysian Airlines Airbus A380, arriving safely perhaps thanks to the old adage the third time is a charm.

Kuala Lumpur, the neighbouring capital, has 10 million inhabitants, the surrounding countryside is very green with a stunning humidity level and lush vegetation. The circuit is next to the airport and the capital is 45 kilometers away. This "Grade 1" circuit (F1 approval required) was built 15 years ago and has hosted F1 for several years. Its maintenance is closely observed and the layout is pleasant and detailed, in the shade of the palm trees. Huge workshops are under construction at the edge of the property, allowing glimpses of the activities at this well-known site.
