After the GT40 saga, Ford continued to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as an engine-supplier and it was thanks to the Mirage GR8 in Gulf's legendary colours that the American manufacturer brought to victory the Ford Cosworth for the first time at Le Mans, 1975.

The prototype designed by British engineer John Wyer, whose name is synonymous with Gulf Oil and its blue and orange colours, won at the 43rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans thanks to the duo Jacky Ickx - who won the second of his six victories at Le Mans - and Derek Bell, for the first of his five wins.

Marino Franchitti, who has participated five times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, slid behind the wheel of the legendary Gulf GR8 - winner in 1975 - during the week of the Concours d'Elégance at Pebble Beach, in California, the races of which take place on the no less legendary Laguna Seca circuit.
