The e-tron Spyder is Audi's muscular hybrid variation of the electric car on display at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2010.

The e-tron presented at the last NAIAS in Detroit was the fully electric version. This Spyder is distinguished by its sporty look, and also by its engine; a twin turbo V6 TDI (300 hp) at the rear, and two 64kW/88hp electric motors. The charging system is cleverly concealed within the four rings of the Audi logo above the grille.

Stylistically, the e-tron Spyder is superbly sharp and aggressive: the grille is accented on both sides by LEDs overlying air intakes for cooling the two engines. The windscreen wraps-around to side windows in what appears to be one piece. Even at rest on the stand it exudes a sense of speed and excitement; on  a circuit perhaps leading an imaginary field of sportscars in the saga of Audi at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Their nine wins in La Sarthe have contributed significantly to the aesthetic development of Audi road models. Does the e-tron Spyder reveal clues about the future of hybrids in competition? Time will tell ...
