For the sixth edition of Rennsport Reunion – the biggest Porsche gathering in the world that took place this past weekend at the Laguna Seca circuit in California – the German marque brought together its most stunning models, including a few previous 24 Hours of Le Mans winners.
At the sixth edition of Rennsport Reunion at the Laguna Seca circuit in California, Porsche went all out for this triennial gathering. Hundreds of road and sporting Porsches came together for the event, including rare and emblematic models like the 917/30 Sunoco and Gulf Oil livery 917s.
Several Porsches from the 24 Hours of Le Mans were on display, including three previous winners: Martini Racing Team's #22 917 K (1971) shared by Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep, Porsche Kremer Racing's Porsche 935 K3 (1979) driven by brothers Whittington and Klaus Ludwig, and the 1998 Porsche 911 GT1 shared by Stéphane Ortelli, Allan McNish and Laurent Aiello. In fact, current official Porsche driver in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and LMGTE Pro winner at the 24 Hours this year Michael Christensen took the wheel of this car at Laguna Seca (see tweet).
Among many of the German manufacturer's gems at this weekend's event figured Team Essex's RS Spyder (LMP2 winner in 2009) and the 935/77A fielded by Barbour Racing at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans entrusted to Dirk Barbour, Rolf Stommelen and famous actor-driver Paul Newman.
Legendary drivers were also on the scene, such as 2015 World Endurance Champion Mark Webber, five-time Le Mans winner (four with Porsche) Derek Bell and the recent 24 Hours Grand Marshal Jacky Ickx, a six-time winner of the race (four with Porsche as well).
