Brad Pitt has started the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The Hollywood superstar signalled the start of the 84th running of the legendary race after an action-packed morning at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

Brad Pitt’s first visit to Le Mans will long live in the actor’s memory. Firmly strapped into the cockpit of an ACO driving school prototype and wearing a helmet bearing his name, Pitt was taken on a lap of the full circuit by two-time race winner Alexander Wurz. A beaming smile as he got out of the car showed that the star clearly enjoyed the experience.

After regaining his composure, Pitt was an avid spectator of a scene worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster as four French Army soldiers leapt from a helicopter to hand him the French flag which he brandished a few moments later to start the race. Pitt has yet to reveal whether the experience has given him the inclination to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Patrick Dempsey!
