This is your first year in GTE. What are your impressions of this class?
"This is a very competitive class, and we are very close to each other. It is difficult to create a gap in a 6 hour race because the cars are all very different but in the end, very close in performance. F1 is very different because you always know where the others are while in endurance racing, you never know what to expect. But it's the same for everyone, we have great fights and the championship is long!"
What about your car, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage?
"A race car is a race car. We must learn to push it to its limits! The only concern is that coming from a discipline where cars go faster, I always feel like I'm not going fast enough! But when I look at the lap times, I'm fast! It's just a matter of adjustment and to achieve what the car can really do. But we must always push hard!"
For now, Aston Martin dominates the GTE Pro category. What about at the 24 Hours of Le Mans?
"Of this season, Le Mans is the track that I know the least because I raced on the other circuits recently in F1. But I have driven there and it is a difficult circuit where there are many pitfalls. In addition, it takes a while to learn the track and you do not have much time. The most important for me is to run as much as possible. I could also count on Rob (Bell) and Fred (Makowiecki), my team mates, who know the circuit very well. They certainly give me a little more time running and the benefit of their knowledge. But I know the race of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be very tough this year and we'll have to be super good. The competition will be very tough. I think the race in the GTE Pro will be very very tight at least until nightfall. At night time, many things are happening and it can change the order. It is important for us to be consistent and stay out of trouble as we did at Silverstone. If in addition to our strategy is good, it will help us to be well placed!"
You participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009 driving the Oreca prototype (with Tiago Monteiro and Stephane Ortelli) in LM P1. What do you recall of this race?
"It was certainly one of the toughest races I have had! We were not there to win, but rather to finish fifth or sixth. And it changes your perception a bit of the race. But it was a very exciting event and nothing can prepare a driver for what will happen there! "
