Corvette has a long history at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, going back almost 60 years. The American carmaker made its first appearance in La Sarthe in 1960 and has featured in the GT class at every race without exception since 2000.

Corvette’s Le Mans début came in 1960 when three Chevrolet Corvette C1s lined up on the grid. Two cars, the #1 steered by Briggs Cunningham and William Kimberley and the #2 raced by Dick Thompson and Fred Windrig, were forced to retire early so only the #3 Chevy, driven by John Fitch and Bob Grossman, finished the race. It took 8th place overall, a decent result for the American manufacturer’s first outing at the French classic.

After that, Corvettes featured regularly at Le Mans, then the constructor made an official comeback in 2000 with the Corvette C5.R. It was a sensational return with one of the cars (Franck Fréon, Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins) taking third place in the GTS class. Even better, the following year, Ron Fellows, Scott Pruett and Johnny O’Connell scored the marque’s first Le Mans victory. In all, Corvette Racing can boast ten wins in various classes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2018, two C7.Rs roared off the starting grid, with the #63 driven by Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller finishing fourth in GTE Pro.
