The cost of the restoration (suspension, steering, clutch, brakes and seats) is estimated at 45,000 euros. The General Council decided to provide a substantial portion, 20,000 euros, and to appeal to donations for the remaining amount. The Fondation Motul pledged 15,000 euros. So only 10,000 euros were lacking which Internet users were asked to cover at Ulule, an online crowdfunding platform.
The response exceeded hopes since by the end, 11,000 euros were donated across 132 donors. Though a third of the funding came from the Sarthe department, demonstrating the deep attachment locals have for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, two-thirds were collected from other French departments and also foreign countries like Switzerland, Great Britain and Romania. The passion for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and its history knows no end!
The museum will report regularly on the progress of the work. Keep your eyes peeled!
