Everybody knows that the 8 times champion of Le Mans Tom Kristensen is Danish, and that he is this year driving his 15th Le Mans in the #3 (LM P1) Audi Sport North America Audi R18 TDI, which he shares with Rinaldo Capello and Allan McNish.

We also have three other Danish drivers present.

Almost equally well known is Jan Magnussen in his 13th Le Mans, driving the #74 (LM GTE Pro) Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1, which he shares with Oliver Gavin and Richard Westbrook.

Casper Elgaard in his 8th Le Mans, is driving the #5 (LM P1) Hope Racing Oreca Swiss HY Tech-Hybrid, which he shares with Steve Zacchia and Jan Lammers.

Alan Simonsen in his 5th Le Mans, driving the #89 (LM GTE Pro) Hankook - Team Farnbacher Ferrari 458 Italia, which he shares with Dominik Farnbacher and Leh Keen.

All four are hugely popular - but especially so in their home country, and over the years we have seen an increasing number of Danish spectators, making the 1000 mile trip to La Sarthe, to enjoy the race and support the Danish drivers.

In previous years the estimate has been around 25-30,000 Danes - which seen in relation to the Danish population of 5.5 million is even more impressive - and judging by the amount of Danish voices that are heard all over, this year is no exception.

Many of the Danes are here by means of travel agencies like K-Rejser, (run by Tom Kristensen's younger brother) who build up entire Danish villages around the campsites, complete with everything a Dane might need - in particular large tents with live music, bars and a fantastic atmosphere - and massive amounts of small tents where one can get a little nap, should the action get to be a little too much.

In fact, K-Rejser - the biggest of a number of Danish travel agencies - have this year broken their own record for number of sold trips.
