Dr. Walliser: new director of Porsche's GT program

Porsche has announced the appointment, beginning October 1st, of Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser as Vice-President in charge of competition as the replacement for Hartmut Kristen who held the position since 2004. He will supervise the global GT program, whether it be for competition or series GTs.

In charge of development for the 918 Spyder super-car, which now holds the lap record among series cars at the great Nürburgring circuit, Frank-Steffen Walliser will keep the upper hand on this project in tandem with his function as Vice-President of Porsche Motorsport. It is somewhat of a homecoming for the French Ph.D. in mechanical engineering since he oversaw the German manufacturer's sports strategy from 2003 to 2008 while Hartmut Kristen was Vice-President of Porsche Motorsport. The latter will not be leaving the Weissach marque as he will serve as a Research & Development consultant.

Since the beginning of the year, Porsche has won the GT class at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring (TUDOR United SportsCar Championship), just like the first round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Silverstone. On the other hand, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the German manufacturer had to settle for the third step of the podium in the LM GTE Pro class and second place in the LM GTE Am class.
