ELMS: 43-car grid for the season opener in Barcelona

The entry list for the 4 Hours of Barcelona, the opening round of the 2024 European Le Mans Series, has been unveiled. Forty-three cars will be in action across the LMP2, LMP2 Pro/Am, LMP3 and LMGT3 classes.

The starting grid for the 4 Hours of Barcelona on Sunday 14 April will feature the world’s largest LMP2 field with 22 competitors. This opening round will also mark the first European Le Mans Series race for GT3s since 2015. The grid will comprise 14 LMP2 and eight LMP2 Pro/Am prototypes, ten LMP3 entries and 11 LMGT3s.

The LMP2 field doubles in size

The LMP2 class has swelled from seven entries to 14 this season. Algarve Pro Racing (#25 Oreca 07-Gibson) will be back to defend its title with the 2023 champion driver, Alex Lynn, partnered by Olli Caldwell and Matthias Kaiser. United Autosports, Cool Racing and Inter Europol Competition will field two cars each. Iron Lynx-Proton, Vector Sport, AO by TF, Nielsen Racing, IDEC Sport, Duqueine Team and Panis Racing will join them with one car each.
The list of drivers comprises an impressive array of champions and race winners from all areas of motorsport. Robert Kubica (AO by TF), Felipe Drugovich (Vector Sport), Ritomo Miyata (Cool Racing), Louis Delétraz (AO by TF), Paul Di Resta (United Autosports), Frederik Vesti (Cool Racing), Ferdinand Habsburg (Cool Racing), Will Stevens (Nielsen Racing) and many more will make up what is undoubtedly the most competitive ELMS grid ever.

Eight teams are entered in the LMP2 Pro/Am class. They field the same cars as in LMP2 but with an amateur driver in their ranks. Last season’s 4 Hours of Barcelona was won by a car from this class. AF Corse, Algarve Pro Racing, Nielsen Racing, United Autosports, Proton Competition, Iron Lynx-Proton, DKR Engineering, Team Virage and Richard Mille by TDS will battle for honours this time round.

A promising LMP3 driver line-up

The LMP3 class will comprise ten cars driven by some of the most promising endurance talent around. Cool Racing will be looking for a third successive team title with a Ligier JS P320-Nissan shared by Miguel Cristóvão, Manuel Espirito Santo and Cédric Oltramare. Meanwhile, 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup LMP3 champions Julien Gerbi and Gillian Henrion are moving up to ELMS with Team Virage. The 2018 LMP3 champions, RLR MSport, will field two cars while the 2019 team title winner, Eurointernational, will be relying on a single car. DKR Engineering will enter the only Duqueine M30-D08.

GT3 returns to ELMS

Eleven cars will contest the LMGT3 class in 2024. This will be the first time that an ELMS race features a GT3 field since the 2015 4 Hours of Estoril. The 2024 grid will see Ferrari take on Aston Martin, Porsche and Lamborghini.

The 2023 LMGTE champions, Proton Competition, will run a single Porsche 911 GT3 R LMGT3 for Claudio Schiavoni and Julien Andlauer. The other Porsche on the grid will be in the colours of the Iron Dames and driven by Sarah Bovy, Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting.
Racing Spirit of Léman and Grid Motorsport by TF will both field an Aston Martin Vantage.
Iron Lynx, the 2021 LMGTE champion, will enter the only Lamborghini Huracán in ELMS. The rest of the grid is made up of six Ferrari 296 LMGT3s.

The 4 Hours of Barcelona will be held from 12 to 14 April, with official pre-season testing taking place on 8-9 April.
