ELMS Silverstone course - Gibson celebrates

The Gibson chassis confirmed their domination at the free practice and qualifying sessions, but the win was decided in a breathtaking final hour for Gary Hirsch, Jon Lancaster and Bjorn Wirdheim (Greaves Motorsport).

This opening 2015 ELMS round quickly became a battle of three between Greaves Motorsport and Jota Sport's Gibsons against the new and very convincing Thiriet by TDS Racing Oreca 05. Though Albuquerque replaced Jota Sport in the lead in the first race hour, at the end of the first driver change Greaves Motorsport took back the helm. The outcome of the race came to light in the last hour, after a slow zone caused by a collision between the No. 63 Ferrari and the No. 68 Aston Martin. Thiriet by TDS Racing called the battle cry: after having bumped Jota Sport's Gibson from second position, Tristan Gommendy took control from Greaves Motorsport 45 minutes from the finish shortly before the final refueling stops. But the British outfit's Gibson didn't give up and retook the lead five minutes from the finish following a particularly bold pass made by Jon Lancaster.

Greaves Motorsport won ahead of Dolan-Albuquerque-Tincknell (Jota Sport) and Gommendy-Badey-Thiriet (Thiriet by TDS Racing). Krohn Racing (Ligier JS P2) and Eurasia Motorsport (Oreca 03) both had nice debuts, rounding out the top 5. For the first appearance of the LM P3 class, the Ginetta chassis proved nicely reliable. Team LNT's two cars achieved a one-two, with the win for Charlie Robertson and Sir Chris Hoy, the former gold Olympic medal winning cyclist. He could not have had a better debut in prototypes, on his way to a future participation at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016. Germany reigned in LM GTE and GT3, with respective wins for the Gulf Racing UK Porsche 911 and TDS Racing's BMW Z3, also entered in this class.

The second 2015 ELMS round will take place in Italy at the Imola circuit on Sunday, May 17th.
