Now renamed Gibson, the chassis called Zytek until the end of 2014 (with two LM P2 wins at Le Mans in 2011 and 2014) dominated the free practice for the LM P2 class thanks to its most loyal teams. Jota Sport and Greaves Motorsport clocked the best times at the first and second sessions, respectively. In their wake, performances were extremely close between Murphy Prototypes, Thiriet by TDS Racing, AF Corse (Oreca chassis) and Pegasus Racing (Morgan chassis). Without a doubt, the future winner figures among these six teams, with a quantitative advantage going to AF Corse who, unlike its six adversaries, will race two cars.
In LM GTE and GTC, Ferrari - title-winner in the two classes in 2014 - looks to be the best candidate to its own succession...but the Italian marque will go up against a formidable opponent. In LM GTE, the BMW Z4 of Marc VDS, after a noteworthy ELMS performance at the 2014 closing round at Estoril, immediately interjected itself into the top 4 in the class. The German GT even clocked the best time of the first GT3 free practice, thanks to TDS Racing. The indefatigable Porsche 911 was not left in the dust, clocking the third LM GTE time at the second session.
The third free practice session, qualifying and the race are shaping up wide open for this first 2015 ELMS round on Saturday, April 11th. They will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. respectively (local times).
