ELMS – Thiriet by TDS Racing (Oreca) wins at Imola

For the second official outing in the European Le Mans Series, the new Oreca 05 achieved a first win with French team Thiriet by TDS Racing. The car will without a doubt be formidable at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 13th and 14th in the LM P2 class.

The No. 46 Oreca 05-Nissan won a stunning victory thanks to the trio Badey, Thiriet and Gommendy which, after starting from the fifth row on the grid, dominated almost constantly. The car won with less than a 15-second lead on another Oreca chassis, Murphy Prototypes'  No. 48 Oreca 03R-Nissan. Jota Sport's Gibson 015S-Nissan finished third and rounded out the podium. However, the No. 38 was expected to win given the degree it had dominated early in the race, carving a significant gap lap after lap since the start. But after repeated passages on the curbs, it lost a part of its front hood and had to return to its pit and give up the win. It settled for third place more than a minute from the winners.

The second Gibson 015S-Nissan, Greaves Motorsport's No. 41 that won at the 4 Hours of Silverstone, finished in fourth place just ahead of Krohn Racing's No. 40 Ligier JS P2 which achieved its best result of the season.

In LM GTE, the win for Ferrari, in Italy of course! AT Racing's No. 56 Ferrari F458 Italia won ahead of Proton Competition's Porsche 911 RSR and another Ferrari, Formula Racing's (No. 60).

Next, all the ELMS players will head to Le Mans at the end of the month on May 31st for Test Day then for the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans!
