The ACO has released the provisional entry list for the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans (10-11 June). We’ve crunched the numbers for you!
Once again, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has attracted a full grid with 62 cars set to do battle on 10-11 June. The field comprises 16 Hypercars, 24 LMP2 prototypes, 21 LMGTE Am challengers and one Innovative Car. Ten teams make up the reserve list. The last time the race drew as many competitors to the premier class was in 2011 when 17 LMP1 prototypes entered.
The teams represent 16 different nationalities. The nations with the largest contingent are the UK and Italy with seven teams each. Then comes France with six teams, followed by the USA (five) and Germany (four).
Although the list of 186 drivers is yet to be completed, 12 of them have already won the race outright:
In the LMP2 class, eight cars will be driven by professional and amateur racers. The teams with Pro/Am line-ups are Tower Motorsports, Nielsen Racing, Cool Racing, Graff Racing, DKR Engineering, Algarve Pro Racing, AF Corse and Racing Team Turkey.
The number of manufacturers who will be fighting for overall victory: Cadillac, Vanwall, Porsche, Toyota, Ferrari, Peugeot and Glickenhaus.
Seven is also the number of teams making their 24 Hours of Le Mans début in 2023. They are Floyd Vanwall Racing Team (#4 Vanwall Vandervell 680), Action Express Racing (#311 Cadillac V-Series.R), Racing Team Turkey (#923 Oreca 07-Gibson), ORT By TF (#25 Aston Martin Vantage AMR), GMB Motorsport (#55 Aston Martin Vantage AMR), Walkenhorst Motorsport (#100 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo) and Hendrick Motorsports (#24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1). Hendrick Motorsports will take up residence in Garage 56 with a modified version of a Nascar Cup Series entrant.
The number of women drivers promised a seat at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary, subject to late additions. The #85 Porsche 911 RSR-19 will be driven by the Iron Dames all-female line-up of Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting and Rahel Frey. Doriane Pin will be in the #63 Oreca 07-Gibson of Prema Racing with Daniil Kvyat and Mirko Bortolotti. Lilou Wadoux will share the wheel of Richard Mille AF Corse’s #83 Ferrari 499 GTE Evo with Luis Pérez Companc and Alessio Rovera.
The number of cars shod with Michelin tyres (16 Hypercars and the 21-strong LMGTE Am field).
Goodyear will supply tyres to 25 cars (the 24 LMP2 prototypes and the Innovative Car).
