In the fifth round of the 2011 ALMS, to be held on August 5 and 6 on the Mid-Ohio circuit, Robertson Racing will have the first all-female crew in the history of the series.

It will consist of Andrea Robertson, wife of David, the owner of the team, who gives up the wheel of his Ford GT #40 to Melanie Snow. Currently fifth in the IMSA GT3 Challenge, she will drive the Ford GT in practice session at  Mid-Ohio, the Tuesday before the race.

Melanie Snow: “Andrea and I have been friends for a while and always joked about forming an all-girl team. Obviously a lot has changed since I last raced in what was the original GT class, but the Challenge cars aren’t too far way in terms of performance so hopefully it won’t be much of a step up. Having said that I’m expecting the Ford to handle completely different to the Porsche I usually race.”

For the record, the last all-woman crew at the 24 Hours of Le Mans were also driving a Ford GT in 2010, Rahel Frey, Natacha Gachnang and Cyndie Allemann. 2011 was also auspicious for the ladies: in LM GTE Am, Andrea Robertson, joined her husband for the first podium of a female driver since 1931. Vanina Ickx got her best result in Sarthe, with the seventh overall in the Lola-Aston Martin prototype of Kronos Racing.
