The Geneva Motor Show, which runs from the 8th March to the 18th, will see the launch of the F12 berlinetta, the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever built.
In 1968, the appearance of the 365 GTB4, called "Daytona", reinstated in Maranello tradition of a sporty front-engined V12 GT dear to Enzo Ferrari. It's modern decendants have been the 550 Maranello, the 612 Scaglietti, the 599 GTB Fiorano, and today the F12 berlinetta.
At first glance,it is a little more compact than the 599 GTB Fiorano. The dashboard and seats are also a little tighter, the engine of 6262cc (740 hp at 8,700 rpm) was lowered, while the configuration of the gearbox and rear suspension have also reduced the volume in the back of the F12berlinetta. Everything leads to a lower centre of gravity for better aerodynamic efficiency. The combination of twelve different alloys has earned it 20% more rigidity, and weighs 1,525 kg, 70 less than the 599 GTB Fiorano.
From the drawing board of Pininfarina, Ferrari's designer of choice, the F12berlinetta reaches 100kmh in 3.1 seconds (0 to 200kmh in 8.5 seconds). It also benefits from a corner entry speed and a superior braking by the use of carbon-ceramic brakes. No doubt the prospect of owning the most powerful road Ferrari ever built will attract many devotees of the Prancing Horse.
