Petrol, electricity and solar energy; a the combination devised for the Fisker Karma, a multi-energy luxury saloon.

The Fisker Karma was born in 2007, the brainchild of German Bernhard Koehler, formerly of BMW and Ford, and Danish Henrik Fisker, to whom we owe the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage, and the BMW Z8.

Fisker designed a luxury four-door body, but with rear doors set right back into the rear wheel arches to give it the look of a coupe. Under the glittering blue bodywork, the different energies work seamlessly together. At the front, a two litre turbocharged four-cylinder 260hp petrol engine. At the rear, two 330 kW electric motors with a range of 80 km. On the roof is a panel converting solar energy into electricity.

Headquartered in Irvine (California), Fisker Automotive plans to commence production of the Karma in 2011.
