At the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, McLaren created a sensation by winning the famous race in La Sarthe against the favourites in the prototype class. While the driver line-up of Yannick Dalmas, Masanori Sekiya and JJ Lehto crossed the finish line victorious, Justin Bell rounded out the podium along with his father, Derek, and Andy Wallace with the No. 51 F1 GTR of David Price Racing (Harrods).
In June, at the Mid-Ohio track, the British driver once again felt the immeasurable joy of the BMW engine waxing lyrical. Though the car was not the same one he drove at Le Mans in 1995, it was in fact a car jointly entered by the Bigazzi and BMW Motorsport teams in 1996 for the trio Nelson Piquet, Johnny Cecotto and Danny Sullivan.
