Last winner of the LM GTE Pro class with Ferrari, Giancarlo Fisichella will try to take his second victory in a row in 2013. The Italian driver, who turned 40 on January 14th, has successfully moved into sportscar racing since 2010 following a long career in Formula 1 (229 Grands Prix, 3 victories and 4 poles). This year, he will still race with fellow team-mate Gianmaria Bruni and will share the duty with Matteo Malucelli in the #51 Ferrari 458 Italia.
The last Grand Prix winner who also took the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is Italian as well. Michele Alboreto (1956-2001) started in Formula 1 and raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Lancia in 1981. After five wins (three with Ferrari) in F1 and 194 Grands Prix, he moved over in USA before coming back to Le Mans in 1996. He won the 24-hour race the following year with Tom Kristensen and Stefan Johansson. He is one of the pioneers of the Audi saga as he finished fourth in 1999 and third in 2000. He unfortunately died on April 25, 2001 during a test session before the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one month after winning endurance classic race 12 Hours of Sebring.
Only four drivers won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and became Formula 1 World Champion: Mike Hawthorn, Phil Hill, Graham Hill and Jochen Rindt.
