The Mecauto Historic Racing team restores and races Group C cars, among them a Spice SE89 and a Porsche 962 in Jägermeister livery that competed in the 1989 World Championship with Brun Motorsport.
What kind of car costs between 200,000 and 300,000 euros according to its state, its rarity and race record? In comparison, a Porsche 917 in good condition (car of the golden age of of the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the beginning of the 70s) can cost up to 5 million euros!
If the price seems "reasonable", these cars require a lot of preparation, care and staff. We must not forget that they have already mostly near to a 30 year history. Mechanical parts have been modified and adapted to modern times, such as ignition, which was at the time be changed after each race while now, current systems have a lifespan of one year. But one problem is spare parts. Indeed, manufacturers such as Porsche do not produce them any more. Therefore the teams make their own parts!
This model is a Porsche 962, which is composed with aluminum and carbon fibre (first use). The engine and gearbox are badged Porsche. Its current owner is English and he bought this car not long ago. To acquire this kind of car there is a network between owners but on the championship website, a section is devoted to selling Group C cars. A Group C championship exists so that these machines can continue to delight us on the various tracks. The most beautiful European circuits like Spa,Donington, Silverstone, Paul Ricard, Imola and Le Mans are visited.
