GT in the ILMC 1/8 : Corvette

Six generations and almost sixty years of history: what better car than the Corvette to open this series on street versions racing GT cars in 2011 Le Mans and ILMC?

The first Corvette (C1), was launched way back on the 30th of June 1953. It was first production car featuring a GRP (fibreglass) body, which housed a 150hp straight six. Ten years later, the arrival of the C2 Sting Ray had another characteristic feature: the rear window split into two, which disappears in 1964 for reasons of rear visibility. The engine grew to a V8 and the power increased from 250 to over 400hp to 1967. The third generation was born in 1968: Derived from the Mako Shark concept car, the C3 was available until 1982 (convertible until 1975) its exceptional longevity (542,861 examples produced) definitely established the Corvette 'look'.

After a year break, the C4 took over in 1984. The lines are less angular, but the V8, the long bonnet, the headlights and cropped rear look of the C3 remain, just like on the C5 launched in 1997. With this fifth-generation Corvette that made its return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2000 with victories in LM GTS in 2001, 2002 and 2004. In 2005, the new C6 achieved 5th and 6th positions overall and a victory in LM GT1 class in 2009. In 2010, Corvette joined the ranks of the LM GT2 with the C6.R ZR1, the road version is the fastest Corvette ever produced. A brilliant heir to of cars entered in La Sarthe by Briggs Cunningham in the 60s, Henry Greder and Greenwood brothers in the 70s, and Callaway in the 90s.

In 2011, the Corvette C6 is available in six versions: coupé and cabriolet, coupé and cabriolet Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1. The latest generation the C7 is expected in 2013.
